A Tragic Conformity
Monday, February 13, 2012
The passing away of the legendary Whitney Houston brought tears to many across the world. Undoubtedly a gifted singer and one of the most prominent female voices of all times, she will be dearly missed. A beautiful singer with a beautiful voice yet amid the beauty, she lived a life marked with many struggles and tragedies.
I watching an interview that she had with Diane Sawyer in which she said, "My business is sex, drugs, rock and roll, ya' know...". It's heartbreaking. It's heartbreaking to see how a gifted singer like herself, raised as a baptist and molded her voice in a gospel choir yet fell to the many temptations of the world. Listening to the statement she made added more fuel to my passion to make a difference in the sports and entertainment scene.
We all fall sometimes. But never come to the point whereby we accept and conform to the ways of the world. Never come to the point whereby we say, "My business is sex, drugs, rock and roll".
Though it's hard, it's better to struggle then to accept.
