The Paseo

Wednesday, April 27, 2011

The evening was rather serene. En route home after a long and tiring day, Jack made an impulsive decision. He decided to detour to that place. He swerved the steering towards the lake, a place he hasn't visited for a very long time.

He parked his car, stepped out only to breathed in the air of familiarity. He lets out a heavy sigh  as he looked around the unforgettable surroundings. Somewhat hesitant, he finally moved his legs towards the paseo, the one that's filled with shades of memories both good and bad.

"Things will never be the same again no matter how many times you walk down this path and try to relive the past", his alter ego seemed to nudge him as he continues to trod that walkway.

Deep down inside, Jack knew it too. He just didn't want to face it. He didn't know how to face it. With all that has happened, he's handled everything in the worst possible manner. Stupidity and fear got the better out of him.

The last stretch is always the hardest and as Jack strolled the last stretch of the paseo, he was reminded of how important the paseo was and is to him. Perhaps too important. Jack finally came to a full circle and arrived back at his car.

He opened the car door and just before he entered the car, he consciously breathed in the all too familiar air once again. Things will never be the same again no matter how many times you walk down this path and try to relive the past. The past has spoken and the present is echoing its consequences.

Jack got into the car, started the engine and headed back home.
