Seasons of Life

"I'm going through a dry-patch in my walk with God." That was my answer during one of the CG meetings with the young adults of my church.

I'm sure all of us have gone through "dry-patch" season - the subdued-flame period, the "silent" season, the "wandering" times, etc. A lot of times, we place ourselves into this season with reasons such as we aren't hearing anything from God therefore we're in a  a dry-patch. We aren't receiving any new word therefore we're in a dry-patch. All of which may be true. But as I reflected upon my personal dry-season, the Lord rebuked me with a rhetorical question,

"So, who's to fault that you're in a dry-patch?"

The answer inevitably points back to ME.

God created some parts of the world to go through the four different seasons which display His creativity and glory. Summer in most part of the world, is traditionally associated with hot dry weather. The "dryness" can be quite appalling. In order to protect themselves from the dryness, people put extra effort in keeping themselves hydrated and whatever other means which would help them beat the dryness. Note: They put EXTRA effort. Only then will they be able to take advantage of the warmer temperatures by doing outdoor activities, travelling and so on.

My point is this.

God places us in different seasons all the time so that we can enjoy and experience His presence under different "weather" or "conditions". But in order for us to enjoy and experience Him in spite of the dry-patch that we may be in, we need to put in extra effort to fix our eyes on Him. Otherwise, we will end up perceiving that God is "torturing" us under the sun rather than "exposing" us to His glory. Waiting upon the Lord need not be a "dry" thing to begin with, because surely the God who created the universe and the stars is not one that is "dry".

So, when God remains silent or commands us to wait - which with our human interpretation term it to be a dry-season - we should never just sit and allow the "dryness" to consume us but rather, we continue to hydrate ourselves with His word and presence, only then can we enjoy the fullness of His glory.

God created the four different seasons in life so that we may enjoy them.

Teach me, O Lord, to search you deeper and to enjoy Your presence
whether I'm in spring, summer, autumn or winter.
Amen.
